DARK STACK (2019) 24″ x 24″

DARK STACK was made as a demonstration piece to show what varied designs could be created from the same simple starting image (in this case, a photo of a ping-pong ball against a black felt backround). It turned into something more interesting when attendees at Vogue Knitting Live (in New York in January 2019) reported seeing the piece from high above it in a glass-walled elevator, and thinking it looked like a tunnel into the table where I was working on it. Exploring this led to the realization that the piece looks very different depending on which side you view it from.

The piece finally found its calling as a featured artwork in the video Shaping Reality where you can see all the steps in its evolution from the initial sphere.
