The Image Knits Portfolio
All new Image Knits created since the beginning of 2020 are digital simulations of knitting, physically manifested as prints rather than in yarn. They’re created using a multi-step process that first reduces the original image into a knitting pattern, and then rebuilds it as a picture of idealized knitting based on photos of stitches from my actual, physical knitting.
Some of these new works are digital versions of pieces that were previously created in real knitted yarn. Most of my works develop from my own photographs, though I’ve also had fun recently experimenting with transforming iconic paintings into digital knitting. Scroll down and see if you’re able to tell the difference between digital images and photos of actual knitting! Note that especially if you’re on a mobile device, the images at the top of the page are portfolios too big to display quickly—click on them to open a full view and see everything.
