We interrupt our regularly scheduled programming to bring you a special announcement:
Yes, it is what it looks like! ❤️ My older daughter and her husband are expecting their first child, a baby boy due in August! We are all so excited and can’t wait to welcome him into our family.
The things I make will definitely include more baby-friendly pieces now that I’m looking forward to being a grandma 🎉 but I’ll keep making tiny things too, and look forward to the day I can safely share them with the little guy. Today’s piece is more for his parents, though. It’s adapted (with quite a few changes and additions) from a flamingo pattern by @vinamigurumi, made as usual these days with 12wt cotton from @sulkythreads with a 0.6mm hook from @tulipjapan_official .
Kudos to @vinamigurumi for the way this pattern makes masterful use of fluffed-up strands of thread to simulate feathers. It’s very much an illusion, as there’s no wing structure underneath the feathered strands, but to my eye it works very well, and it’s surprisingly easy to do.
PS A wonderful younger coworker, whom I haven’t seen in a long time but sorely miss, once pointed out to me that all I really wanted was to be a badass. My daughter assures me that I will be a badass grandma. Here’s hoping.
